May and June were full of tremendous blessings, such as the arrival of Camille from Hawaii to help us out for the summer and increased involvement from some of our youth in worship. Our Oansa club competed in a local competition. We also had the opportunity to build new relationships and prayer connections with people from the States who found us online and wanted to see the ministry while they happened to be in town.

It was, however, a time of tremendous sadness as well. On June 6, Gustavo’s wife Isabel passed away, leaving behind an adult daughter and a seven-year-old son. Nine days before Isabel died she was in the hospital on the verge of death. The hospital does not allow children inside to visit, but they made an exception for her son Reynaldo so that he could say goodbye to his mother. The next day, Isabel felt much better and the nurses were surprised that she was still alive. She left the hospital that afternoon and gave a wonderful testimony in church on Sunday telling about how grateful she was that the Lord was always with her even though she had been very sick. Isabel died the following Sunday. Perhaps the Lord did one last miracle so that she could give a final testimony before the congregation. She was buried near Esteli where most of her family lives. Gustavo and his wife have been faithfully attending our church for years, and even helping out with sound systems and worship. Please be in prayer for him during this time of loss, and also for Isabel’s family.

May and June were also very busy for our school. Many people were honored as we celebrated Father’s Day, Teacher’s Day, and even Children’s Day, all national holidays. On Father’s Day, we had a special assembly where the upper grades from our school performed a special dance to honor their dads. On Teacher’s Day, there were songs, dances and poems read; and of course, a Bible message was shared on both days. For Children’s Day, which actually ends up being a week-long celebration, each grade in our school had a party on a different day, complete with games and a piñata. Everyone had a lot of fun.

July was a month full of teams, and at one point we had four at the same time! The first team to arrive was from Calvary Chapel Chelmsford in Massachusetts. Their fearless leader, Joe Pirrello, brought a group of fourteen, mostly youth! They helped out with Sunday school to give all our local leaders a much-needed break, and one of them, named Julio, also taught the midweek service in Spanish to give Noel a break.

Besides helping out the local leadership, the Chelmsford team carried out a VBS session, finished several large work projects, completed several outreaches, and even lead worship a number of times. One highlight of their trip was when they held a spontaneous church session at Tent City, complete with Spanish worship and a passionate teaching by Julio. We had planned to break out into groups after that to pray with families and distribute Bibles and clothes; but we were rained out.

The second team to arrive was from Calvary Chapel Pasadena in California, lead by Tony Scotti. Their annual dental clinic was a blessing to many of our students and their families; and their cook, George Leal, was a blessing to the missionaries!

Pastor Tony taught two Wednesdays and a Sunday to give our pastors a much-needed break, and he also taught at our most recent couple’s meeting. The couple’s night, complete with service and dinner, was absolutely lovely. The Pasadena team, who had worked together with the Chelmsford team in Tent City, was also able to return to Tent City to finish the prayer groups and distributions. The people there were overwhelmingly touched by such attention, and so was the team.

The third team to arrive was from Calvary Chapel Twin Lakes in Arkansas, lead by James Mercado. This was their first time coming to Managua, and it was wonderful to have them! They worked alongside the Pasadena team in the couple’s night and several outreaches (including the prayer groups at Tent City).

And while Pasadena worked on their dental clinic, Twin Lakes conducted an eyeglass clinic for reading glasses and even some prescription glasses. One of their team members, Mike Bauerlein , also gave our sound room a much-needed makeover.

There were two other teams that came in July, both from a ministry called OneHope. One of the teams, a group from Canada, is working on developing a long-term project to help the people from Manchester, the community along the lake. In the past, they came to conduct assessments and meet with Manchester community leaders; this time, it was all about building rapport. They came and ran a week-long soccer clinic for the kids that was hugely successful. The other OneHope team, a group from Florida, distributed Christian literature to literally hundreds of kids in schools around Managua.

In March we were blessed to have a group from CC Camarillo come down to help out. We had a wonderful little baseball outreach with the children in the Peace Park neighborhood.

Katy Schuessler and Laura Ritchie were here from Texas at the same time and did not hesitate to get into the games and work projects.

The girls at the Jinotepe orphanage took a real liking to Camille, one of the team members, and she hopes to return for a couple of months this summer.

We are grateful for the servants that the Lord brings here. We were also blessed in March to host a baptism for several people from Noel’s home group Bible study.

In April CC Merritt Island sent a team to help at the perfect time. Cal broke his collar bone the day after they arrived. It was a huge blessing to have the helping hands and prayers of the team at such a time. This team did a lot of door to door evangelism in the local barrios and was very happy to see how the Lord opened the hearts of the people. David DeForge brought some equipment that will be a blessing to dentists coming in the future. He also cleaned many teeth, identified problems, taught oral hygiene to the students and showed the love of Jesus in all that he did here.

Kevin McCarthy was a blessing with Worship, and he also found some latent talent among the orphans in Jinotepe. We pray that the Lord will open the door for these young people to learn more in the future.

There were many other people who helped in our recent time of need, and we could write numerous pages about all of the work done by them to make up for the lack of helping hands here. It was awesome, and God is awesome!

December 2009
During the month of December, we were blessed by a visit from the children of the orphanage in Jinotepe. We have been to visit them often with teams, but this was the first time they came to visit us. They brought with them a small team of missionaries, and together they painted some of our classrooms and renovated our sanctuary garden wall. Shortly after that we were blessed by a group of students from Jessica’s school who came and distributed food they’d bought to some of our church families. December is always a busy time, with lots of holiday celebrations and with special services for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

January 2010
While Cal and Jessie were back in the States for their first furlough as a married couple, the church hosted two special outreaches for the children from the neighborhood. Several of the church leaders got together to host games, worship, and a Bible message for roughly 300 people, including children and adults. We also were blessed, in Cal’s absence, to have several guest speakers, including Pastor Vicente from the Calvary Chapel in San Juan de Limay.

February 2010
In the month of February, the new school year started; and Cal returned to Managua just in time to work with a team from CC Melbourne of Central Florida. The team finished painting the classrooms, helped teach some English classes, and completed several other projects around the church. They also did some outreaches at nearby neighborhoods, at the dump (where a group of Jessica’s students translated), and at Peace Park. Also in February, after working for nearly two months, Noel was finally able to get the Christmas shoe boxes out of customs. A young couple from Canada, Jeff and Danielle Bremner, helped to distribute them.

The month of August was a busy one. Jessica began her new job as a high school math teacher at Nicaragua Christian Academy. Renee McKenzie returned to the States after a six month term of service with us. The Lord provided another short term missionary from Nueva Guinea, Nicaragua named Nubia to pick up where Renee left off.

Brian and Tracey May visited from Costa Rica to renew their visas, and Brian installed a new bakery oven while they were here. We were also blessed in the month of August by a team from Calvary Chapel Melbourne.

CCMelbourne continued a remodeling effort in the bakery by expanding the work space to make room for the new oven.

They also reached out to the local people on visits to an orphanage and a cancer treatment center.

September 2009

During the month of September we hosted several couples’ events. The first was for parents of the students from our school. As well as receiving some teaching from God’s Word, parents enjoyed a time of games and food at a sports complex just outside Managua. The following weekend we hosted a couples’ night with a time of teaching and dinner for the families from our church and neighborhood.

During the month of September, we also celebrated Dia De La Patria, a Central American Independence holiday, which was a day full of fun at the school. Parents came to see displays made by the students and to sample a variety of local foods.

October 2009

The month of October began with another successful couples’ event during which we showed the movie Fireproof. Despite some initial glitches, the movie was so well received that Horacio and Luz Marina did a small, second showing at the school; and many have asked us to show it again in the future. We have also been blessed in the month of October to see a new leader step up for our worship team. Ricardo De La Fuente held auditions for a chorus, and we now have a group of children that sing each week while the youth play and Gustavo Cruz leads vocals. They practice regularly and are getting better all the time. Also in October, the youth leaders from Oansa went on a retreat to El Crucero and had a wonderful time.

PRAISE REPORTS:

Praise God: that we have new leaders involved with the youth and with worship; that we completed another successful school year and will only need to hire one new teacher for next year; that the summer’s teams all went well; that Idrly’s grandmother, Umbelina, is walking again after hip surgery, with a walker.

Agosto 2009.

<place w:st="on"></place>Nicaragua (as well as other countries) and pass out books geared to different age groups that present the Gospel. They also held evening worship sessions and invited all the students to view a Christian movie with a Gospel presentation one evening at the church. In all that week, they distributed 10,846 books to students in <city w:st="on"></city>

<place w:st="on"></place>Miami. There were about 60 people on the team, each from different medical fields, who came for one day to diagnose a variety of health concerns, pass out medications, and host Christian games and activities for the patients’ children. In all they saw roughly 250 people.Along with these three teams, there were several missionaries who visited us in March. One missionary, Renee McKenzie, came in March with a commitment to stay until August. During the month of March, she was involved with the One Hope teams and helped to distribute the activity books. Since then, she has worked a lot with the English teacher at the school. Two other missionaries who came in March were part of an evangelistic team, Brian and Nick from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Nick blessed the church by teaching one Sunday morning, and later that day they went with Cal and Renee out into the neighborhood evangelizing and passing out tracts.  April 2009 The staff and people from Calvary Chapel Managua were encouraged by some visitors in April. One team was from Calvary Chapel Camarillo in <state w:st="on"></state>California, and the other from Calvary Chapel Melbourne in <state w:st="on"></state>

<place w:st="on"></place>Florida. The teams conducted a number of community outreaches. They were able to pray with children and their families at the children’s cancer hospital; they went out evangelizing at La Chureca, the nearby dump; and they went out street witnessing in local neighborhoods. As well as their outreach efforts, the teams also completed some much-needed projects. The people from <city w:st="on"></city>

<place w:st="on"></place>Camarillo helped by repainting the classrooms and the front gate at the school. They also reconditioned our screen for the projector in the sanctuary. Now church-goers can more easily read the words to the worship songs – a tremendous blessing! The team from <city w:st="on"></city>

<place w:st="on"></place>Melbourne worked for several days to expand the work area in the bakery, adding another stainless steel table work station among other things. This was also a tremendous blessing as we are now selling to several local schools and therefore have a much increased demand. The money from the bakery is used to help keep the school running, and we are grateful to God that He always provides!

And the new English teacher <city w:st="on"></city>Carolina also has a heart to share God’s word; she joined the <city w:st="on"></city>

<place w:st="on"></place>Melbourne team on their recent trip to La Chureca; and while there, she lead four people in a prayer to accept the Lord as their Savior! It is wonderful and refreshing to see such passion in our school staff for expanding God’s kingdom.
