February News

December 2009
During the month of December, we were blessed by a visit from the children of the orphanage in Jinotepe. We have been to visit them often with teams, but this was the first time they came to visit us. They brought with them a small team of missionaries, and together they painted some of our classrooms and renovated our sanctuary garden wall. Shortly after that we were blessed by a group of students from Jessica’s school who came and distributed food they’d bought to some of our church families. December is always a busy time, with lots of holiday celebrations and with special services for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

January 2010
While Cal and Jessie were back in the States for their first furlough as a married couple, the church hosted two special outreaches for the children from the neighborhood. Several of the church leaders got together to host games, worship, and a Bible message for roughly 300 people, including children and adults. We also were blessed, in Cal’s absence, to have several guest speakers, including Pastor Vicente from the Calvary Chapel in San Juan de Limay.

February 2010
In the month of February, the new school year started; and Cal returned to Managua just in time to work with a team from CC Melbourne of Central Florida. The team finished painting the classrooms, helped teach some English classes, and completed several other projects around the church. They also did some outreaches at nearby neighborhoods, at the dump (where a group of Jessica’s students translated), and at Peace Park. Also in February, after working for nearly two months, Noel was finally able to get the Christmas shoe boxes out of customs. A young couple from Canada, Jeff and Danielle Bremner, helped to distribute them.

August 2009

The month of August was a busy one. Jessica began her new job as a high school math teacher at Nicaragua Christian Academy. Renee McKenzie returned to the States after a six month term of service with us. The Lord provided another short term missionary from Nueva Guinea, Nicaragua named Nubia to pick up where Renee left off.

Brian and Tracey May visited from Costa Rica to renew their visas, and Brian installed a new bakery oven while they were here. We were also blessed in the month of August by a team from Calvary Chapel Melbourne.

CCMelbourne continued a remodeling effort in the bakery by expanding the work space to make room for the new oven.

They also reached out to the local people on visits to an orphanage and a cancer treatment center.

September 2009

During the month of September we hosted several couples’ events. The first was for parents of the students from our school. As well as receiving some teaching from God’s Word, parents enjoyed a time of games and food at a sports complex just outside Managua. The following weekend we hosted a couples’ night with a time of teaching and dinner for the families from our church and neighborhood.

During the month of September, we also celebrated Dia De La Patria, a Central American Independence holiday, which was a day full of fun at the school. Parents came to see displays made by the students and to sample a variety of local foods.

October 2009

The month of October began with another successful couples’ event during which we showed the movie Fireproof. Despite some initial glitches, the movie was so well received that Horacio and Luz Marina did a small, second showing at the school; and many have asked us to show it again in the future. We have also been blessed in the month of October to see a new leader step up for our worship team. Ricardo De La Fuente held auditions for a chorus, and we now have a group of children that sing each week while the youth play and Gustavo Cruz leads vocals. They practice regularly and are getting better all the time. Also in October, the youth leaders from Oansa went on a retreat to El Crucero and had a wonderful time.

PRAISE REPORTS:

Praise God: that we have new leaders involved with the youth and with worship; that we completed another successful school year and will only need to hire one new teacher for next year; that the summer’s teams all went well; that Idrly’s grandmother, Umbelina, is walking again after hip surgery, with a walker.

Agosto 2009.

Week 482

June and July 2009

Early on in the summer the Lord provided an ample supply of help and support through different teams from the states. The first team came from Harvest Chapel Indiana, led by Karen McGarey. They completed several outreaches, to

Peace

Park and other places, as well as doing some much-needed work around the church properties.

Â

Sometimes it is sufficient just to show a little love to lonely people.

The Indiana team was joined for a few days by a young woman named Andrea and her two cousins who came to volunteer for a few days. Together, they completed a number of projects around the school, the church, and

Cal and Jessies house. Andrea and her cousins also fixed Eufemia’s leaky roof.

The next team that came was a large team from Jessica’s home church, Calvary Chapel Merritt Island, Florida.

Outreaches took place at the dump (La Chureca) and

Manchester among other places; and a series of organization projects were completed that helped maximize the use of space in the church and bakery. As well as outreaches and organization projects, the CCMI team completed a number of work projects on Cal and Jessie’s apartment and at the school and the church, and Pastor Howard taught at a couple’s night.

While CCMI was here, they were assisted by members from a small team from Calvary Chapel Chelmsford in Massachusetts. Also, Joe from CC Chelmsford got straight to work on various electrical projects. Meanwhile, his wife Dot, who is a teacher, assisted Anna with her fourth grade class and assessed some of the curriculum, offering suggestions for some of the classes.Â

July 2009Â July was another month filled with help and support from various teams from the states. The month began with a small team from

Cal’s home church, Calvary Chapel Pasadena.

With only four people, they ran a successful dental and eyeglass clinic for nearly a week. They were followed by a team from Calvary Chapel of Doral Florida, lead by Pastor Edward Abraham.

The children from Manchester showed the Doral Team the beach at Lake Managua.

Pastor Edward and his team were only here for a short time, but they packed a lot of outreaches and some small projects into just a few days, including praying with people from

Tent

City and

Manchester.

Â

CC Doral was joined by Stan Ingram and Susan McNeil from Calvary Chapel Sand Hills in

North Carolina.

God’s timing in bringing them here was perfect as Stan helped increase the security of the church and Cal and Jessie’s apartment during a time when there were several break-ins.

Susan was a blessing as well, helping Jessie finish some projects around the church and get ready for her new job.

The month of July ended with a number of teams that came at the same time. One was from Calvary Chapel in Toppenish, Washington.

They ran a successful medical and dental clinic, completed some other community outreaches, and worked on some much-needed painting and welding projects around the church. During this time, there was also a One Hope team completing daily outreaches in schools all over Managua; and a team from Calvary Chapel in

Old

Bridge stopped by to play with the kids from the neighborhood. Also during this time we were blessed with a visit from Brian and Tracey who came up from

Costa Rica to help out a bit with computer issues and other projects.Junio 2009Â
